At New Horizons Property Group, we love doing home transformation, turning old fixer-upper houses into dream homes. Our latest project at 683 E 3rd Street, Salem, is a perfect example. This 1,676 sq. ft. house, with 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, went from an ugly eye sore to modern and stylish giving it a minimalist feel. This home needed a lot of transformation from top to bottom. Although it took a lot of hard work, we are extremely happy with how it turned out. So here’s a look at what we did:
General Transformation: Modern and Simple
The inside of the house got a complete makeover. We changed the old, outdated look to a fresh, simple design with lots of whites and greys. As a result, This made the space look bigger and brighter. We put in new lighting, paint, flooring, and carpets to give the whole house a modern feel. In addition, the house still had a knob and tube wiring, which is really outdated and unsafe. So, we updated lots of the wiring, replacing it with modern wiring and electrical fixtures that meet all the current codes. This was an important step to make sure the house is safe and ready for things like new appliances and electronics.
Interior Transformation
Kitchen Makeover: A Modern Heart
The kitchen is the heart of any home. In this house, it needed a lot of work! The ceiling was 3.5 inches out of level, so we had to tear it down, re-frame it and install all new drywall. After fixing the ceiling and updating the wiring, we installed recessed lighting, new white shaker cabinets and beautiful granite countertops, topping it off with new matching stainless steel appliances. Now the kitchen looks modern and is perfect for cooking and entertaining, and is ready to be the heart of the home!
Bathroom Bliss: Fresh and Functional
The bathrooms also got plenty of love! We put in new toilets, vanities, and lighting, making these spaces fresh and modern. The new fixtures match the simple, clean look of the rest of the house.
Basement Upgrade: Dry and Strong
The basement was another area that needed major work. We busted out the old concrete floor, dug out approximately 40,000 pounds of dirt, and installed a drainage system and sump pump. Then we poured a new concrete basement floor and reinforced the walls. The basement is now a usable space instead of a damp, musty area.
Exterior Transformation: Clean and Inviting
We didn’t stop at the inside – we also gave the exterior a full makeover. We cleared out all the overgrown bushes and plants, repaired any damaged siding, and gave the whole exterior a freshly painted new look. To finish it off, we landscaped the yard with new plants, trees, and flowers to make it really pop.
New Driveway
We replaced the old, muddy driveway with a new, wide 2-car parking spot. This makes parking easier and add to the house’s curb appeal.
